Energy Creates is a participatory contest. To be eligible, complete all four steps in order. Most students finish steps 1–3 in under an hour. Step 4 is the creative part: take as long as you need.

Pass the quiz
A short quiz based on the documentary. Score 70% or higher to unlock the submission form. Use the study guide if you want a refresher.

Submit your work
Make something original that reflects on the Canadian energy sector. Film, painting, music, dance, writing, design, anything. Upload it through the portal before the deadline.
Bring your medium.
The contest is open to any original artistic work on the theme of the Canadian energy sector. Pick the format that lets you say what you want to say.
- Short film · 10 minutes or less, .mp4
- Painting, drawing, photograph, design, sculpture or other visual art · .jpg
- Dance performance · 10 minutes or less, .mp4
- Musical performance · 10 minutes or less, .mp3 or .mp4
- Short story, essay, or other writing · 5,000 words or less
- And the unconventional: fashion design, nail design, makeup, comic, cosplay, NFT, interactive installation. If you are not sure, email [email protected].
One submission per person. Pick the medium that does the work justice. Submissions made with generative AI tools are not eligible.
Who can enter.
- Canadian citizens (in Canada or abroad) and residents of Canada.
- Aged 15 to 25 at the time of entry.
- Enrolled in, or planning to enrol in, an accredited post-secondary program by September 30, 2028.
- Minors must have parent or guardian consent.
- Energy Creates Inc. staff, jury members, and their immediate families are not eligible.

Don’t miss the cutoff.
Submission window for the current cycle: opens at launch, closes on the official deadline posted on energycreates.com. Submissions after the cutoff are not accepted. All submissions are final.
Submit anonymously: your name should not appear in the work itself. Files must be legible, in the format listed above. Handwritten, faxed, or emailed submissions are not accepted.
Up to $100,000.
Five scholarships are awarded each year. Each winner receives an amount equal to their tuition and mandatory fees at an accredited post-secondary program, up to a cumulative maximum of $100,000 CAD. The scholarship is applicable at any accredited institution in the world; field of study does not affect eligibility.
