Energy Creates announced up to $500,000 more in scholarships for Canadian students whose creative work explores the country's energy future.
The first cohort showed the range of what students can submit. The winners were Emma-Leigh Hinds (animation), Keni Liang (NRG Efficiency), Max Hagenow (A Day in the Life with the Energy Sector), Casper Dong (a video game and digital-arts curriculum proposal), and Josiah Steeves (The Framework of Our Energy Future).
Founded by filmmaker Mathew Embry, the contest is open to creators aged 15 to 25 and accepts work in almost any medium, from short films and essays to music, poetry, paintings, and animation. An independent panel judges entries on originality, clarity of message, impact, and real-world relevance.
A common thread ran through the submissions: Canada's energy leadership calls for a pragmatic, balanced approach that combines renewables, transitional fuels, and traditional energy sources.
