Buried Framework

A short story about a young man named Hawthorne and the quiet, life-saving framework the Canadian energy sector provides.

About this work

The story draws attention to the small but significant ways energy is used to save lives in our society. The protagonist, Hawthorne, begins by despising parts of the energy sector and generalizing that frustration to the whole industry, much like the author did weeks earlier. Watching Global Warning and digging further reframed the picture, and Hawthorne’s arc mirrors that shift: from a narrow climate-only view toward respect and gratitude for the people working in the sector. The result is a portrait of the “buried framework” that lets the rest of Canadian life run.
